Arrival/Dismissal
Northeast School Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Receiving and dismissing students is a large task and one that requires the assistance of every teacher, staff member, and Northeast parent/guardian. Your cooperation in following our expectations for these times greatly aids us in providing a smooth, efficient, and safe arrival and dismissal for all students.
ARRIVAL PROCEDURES:
- School starts promptly at 8:10 a.m.
- Students may arrive at 7:55 a.m. (no adult supervision prior to this time).
- Please do not leave your child on school grounds before 7:55 AM school hours without adult supervision. This is a major safety concern.
- 7:55 a.m., students can enter classrooms and prepare to start their day
- Students eating breakfast should go directly to cafeteria to eat until class begins at 8:10 AM.
- Tardy students: Starting the school day on time is very important for students and staff. Students should be in their class to begin the day at 8:10 a.m. Please make every effort to get your child here on time each day
- Do not park in drop-off lanes or fire lanes- this causes more congestion.
- Drop off locations: front circle of school and or park in the lot and walk child to front (abide by rules)
DISMISSAL PROCEDURES:
- Dismissal begins promptly at 2:25 p.m.
- Parents, please refrain from picking your child up early.
- Any dismissal changes must be made by 12:00 PM (203-977-4469) and the latest to pick-up from main office is at 1:30 p.m. Please know that this is a very stressful time of the day for all students and staff and to ensure the safety and well-being of students. These interruptions and last-minute changes in plans are highly discouraged.
CAR RIDERS/WALKERS:
- Students are dismissed at 2:25 p.m. to the GYM/CAFETERIA of the school.
- ONLY bus riders dismiss from the front of the school.
- Parents wait for students in the back of the school. All students are escorted outside with STAFF to designated areas.
- Drivers in cars must display their car rider tag with the student’s name and teacher’s name clearly written and visible on the window sill.
- Staff members will be supervising students and/or will be directing traffic during dismissal time.
- For the safety of all children, students will not be dismissed to persons who don’t have a car rider tag displayed.
- Older siblings will wait with younger siblings
- Please REMAIN IN YOUR VEHICLE during arrival and dismissal times- Children will come to you.
BUS RIDERS: These students are dismissed from their classroom to wait for their assigned bus to arrive. Students who live beyond one mile can be transported to and from school by bus daily.
The following rules apply to all bus riders:
- Be at the bus stop on time, buses cannot wait. (recommended +/- 10 minutes)
- Enter bus from single file line without pushing or shoving.
- School and/or Driver has the right to assign seating.
- Good conduct is expected at all times on the bus
- Remain seated while the bus is in motion.
- No eating or drinking is allowed.
- Obey the driver and/or monitor at all times.
- Children may only ride the bus to which they are assigned.
- Students who abuse the privilege of riding the bus by engaging in misconduct may be suspended from riding the bus. If such action is deemed necessary, parents will be notified and will be responsible for providing transportation during the suspension.
LATE PICK UPS: It is very important that you have a backup plan for the pickup of your child in case you have an emergency. If you find you are unable to be here on time, you should put your plan in motion and call us to notify your child (203-977-4469). If your situation is a true emergency, and your backup plan falls through, we will keep your child for as long as the office is open. (3:30 p.m.) If we do not receive a phone call regarding a late pickup, every effort will be made to reach a parent or person responsible for picking up the child. (Please provide multiple numbers of contact in the event of an emergency)
CHANGING DISMISSAL PLANS: If your child's dismissal plan is different on a given day: Remind Message and or please send in a written note with your child's name, the date, the change in dismissal plans, and your signature or an email to the classroom teacher. A separate note must be sent each time your child's dismissal plan is different. In order to ensure the safety of your child.
If you need to change dismissal plans during the day, please call the main office at 203-977-4469 by 12:00 PM. The main office will inform the teacher of this change. While emailing the teacher is a great additional step, calling the main office is important since a teacher may not see your email in time for dismissal due to an absence or simply because s/he is working with your child. If your child attends an after school program, it is important that you let that program know separately of any changes since they will be looking for your child if you do not inform them.
MAIN OFFICE PICKUP BEFORE 1:30 PM ONLY: Please note that at 2:00 pm the main office begins preparations for dismissal. After 1:30 pm, students will not be dismissed from the main office. Families needing to pick up students from the main office may do so prior to 1:30 pm. After 1:30 pm, families may use the car rider pickup, parent/guardian pickup, or buses. We thank you in advance for your cooperation with this procedure to ensure the safe dismissal of all students.
If you have any questions about these reminders, please do not hesitate to email or
call 203-977-4469 between 7:00-3:00 Monday-Friday.
Thank you each for taking the time to read this message. Have a great day!
